Fort McMurray Oilsands Curling Club Volunteer Policy

The Fort McMurray Oilsands Curling Club thrives on volunteers to assist with the functionality and successful operations of the club. We are proud to have an exceptional group of members committed to helping our club succeed. The goal of our Volunteer Policy is to promote volunteerism and equal engagement in club supporting activities. Upon registration members will be required to make a choice of ONE of the following 3 options: 1. Pay a volunteer fee Juniors and Little Rocks - $100 ADULT CURLERS - $200 2. Commit to one identified season role (see below) 3. Register to support a minimum of: Juniors and Little Rocks - 3 hours, Adult Curlers- 6 hours, of club events/programs. Season Roles: - Bonspiel Organizer or Co-Organizer - Board of Directors - Social Learn to Curl League Rep - Sport Passport Program - Little Rocks Co-Runner - Junior Program Co-Runner - Learn to Curl Instructors - Craze Event - Ice Maintenance Support - Casino Volunteer (TBD Winter 2025) Volunteer Opportunities: - Ice Install (TBD) - Ice Maintenance Support (TBD 1-2 Hr) - Little Rocks (Saturdays @ 12pm - 1 Hr) - Junior Curling (Saturdays @ 12pm - 2 Hr) - Special Olympic Curling (TBD - 2 Hr) - Rentals (TBD - 1-2 Hr) - Ice Removal (TBD)

Season Role Descriptions

Bonspiel Organizer or Co-Organizer Volunteer to organize and promote a bonspiel event! The identified organizer(s) will be responsible for: - Monitoring and promoting registration among members. - Complete draw schedule. - Monitor and develop a budget. - Obtaining Prizes. - Communicate with Kitchen 72 regarding Banquet

Board of Directors Join the board of directors to assist with the organization and development of the club! Have a say in the current and future development of club initiatives and activities! Social Learn to Curl League Rep Help support a new initiative designed to support New Curlers to join the membership. Responsibilities will include: - Attending each session. - Teaching and instructing new curlers. - Organizing teams for each session. Sport Passport Program (Nov 17th, 24th, Dec 6th 3:00 - 5:00pm) Wood Buffalo Sport Connection has asked the club to be involved in their Sport Passport Program which affords children the chance to experience all types of sport. Support this initiative by teaching curling to two age groups: 6-8 year old from 3-4pm and 9-11 year olds from 4-5pm! Little Rocks Co-Runner Our current Little Rocks Volunteer Instructor has requested assistance to support the program. This role involves attending most Little Rocks sessions as able and learning to facilitate the program when the designated leader is unavailable. It will also include supporting year end bonspiels and program development. Junior Program Co-Runner Our club is looking to establish volunteer instructors for Junior Curling Initatives. This will include development of the program, attendance to Saturday Junior Curling as able and support for year end events. Learn to Curl Instructors The club plans to offer various learn to curl sessions throughout the season. This role includes facilitating and managing learn to curl sessions. Craze Event Each year MacDonald Island organizes a Craze event for the community. This is a drop in event where individuals can experience curling. This past year the club only facilitated it for youth in the community. In the future it would be good to develop the event to include adults. Ice Maintenance Support Our club has a great Ice Maker who will require some assistance with Ice Maintenance throughout the year. As a club we also want to ensure that we have a risk management plan in place in the event that our Ice Maker is sick or otherwise unable to complete the Ice Maintenance due to unforeseen circumstances. This role will involve being available to learn how to prepare Ice for league nights and support as needed throughout the y
